Dune: My Invigoration of an Epic

Image
Let’s start with the facts. I never watched Dune (2021) because let’s face it, sci-fi isn’t my default or favorite genre. There are exceptions to this rule, however. I grew up loving raunchy teenage comedies and family movies. I didn’t really open my mind and become a film fanatic until later in life. But enough of that backstory. The reason I mention this, is because there are very few action/fantasy/sci-fi stories I do love. There is just a certain feeling you get when you see them come to life. For example, I love Star Wars. The original trilogy will always be my favorite. There are also stories like Lord of the Rings that will go down in history. I feel like these Dune films are the next big thing.  Sitting down and watching the first film just a few days ago reinvigorated my love for these long, epic stories. Everything captured my attention between the visuals, the score, costumes and sound editing. I didn’t have the pleasure of watching the film on the big screen, but I made...

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn)

WOW. Just wow. This film was absolutely everything I needed & more. Like, literally everything. I have been feeling so down on myself lately and this film brought me back to life. It brought me back to remembering, I am a woman and I can do anything! Margot Robbie reprises her role as Miss Harley Quinn and she gives such a stupendous performance. Her co-stars really assist with giving the whole film a fun & empowering vibe. The film is narrated by Harley and it really does a great job of providing just enough back story for everyone, that it leaves you wanting more. My favorite thing about the movie was the fact that they used so many fun Easter eggs from the comics. They threw in a little bit of all the versions of Harley I know and love. The layout of the narration was also super fun, because it was illustrated as Harley was telling the story. The DC film universe is definitely being led by it's movies about powerful women characters. This...

Here I am. Back with another review for the masses. This time, it's going to get gritty. We all know how dark the Batman characters can be, as we have seen multiple iterations of the characters through comics, films and even video games. This is a known fact. This film does NOT hold back in any way. I'd say, BE PREPARED for a very tense, heavy film, with shades of dark humor. It is definitely not for the light hearted. I wouldn't say it is along the lines of a 'horror' film, by any means, but it is very intense. Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, an ordinary man in Gotham who is living his life with severe mental illness. He takes care of his mother and works a low income job to keep things afloat. He is most known for working as a clown doing odd jobs around the city, such as holding signs for local businesses and entertaining children in hospitals. We learn early on, that his dream is to become a stand-up comedian. He is occasionally seen wri...

Rocketman

I cannot stress enough how much everyone should see this film. I also want you to go in knowing that it is not a ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ rip-off whatsoever. Elton John had a difficult life, believe it or not. I have to say, I did not grow up knowing this about him. I grew up with 90’s Elton. Lion King, Princess Diana, Elton John. So for me, this film was a learning experience the first time around. The second time, I really got to just have fun and soak it in. I knew a lot of his songs before I saw the film, however, I did not know as many as I should. I listened to the soundtrack for this film for about 2 weeks straight & I am still listening. Taron Egerton (Kingsman:The Secret Service) plays the role of Elton John. I have to say, I’ve really only seen him in Kingsman, and he was fantastic then, but he was on another level with this role. He really stripped down and learned about Elton’s life. He looked, sounded and acted the part. It was uncanny how m...

Don't let the critics and reviews fool you on this one. Men In Black: International was a good summer movie. This film stars Tessa Thompson, Chris Hemsworth and Liam Neeson. You may recognize the chemistry the two main stars had, if you've recently viewed Avengers: Endgame. Molly (Tessa Thompson) has a brief encounter with a creature as a child. From that brief stint, she grows up wanting to know everything about the Men In Black. She lives her life dedicated to understanding the universe. As time goes (20+ years of studying and looking), she finds their location and proves her smarts to get invited as a probationary Agent. She receives the title Agent M and takes a liking to the organization's top agent, Agent H (Chris Hemsworth). She does brief homework, to gain just enough knowledge to convince Agent H to allow her to come on a mission with him. The MIB are dealing with a very large threat of mankind, called, The Hive. They can form thems...
